Extension of Treaty Trader (E-1) and Treaty Investor (E-2) Visa Validity for French Nationals

Extension of Treaty Trader (E-1) and Treaty Investor (E-2) Visa Validity for French Nationals

Seal of the US Department of State

In a significant development for French nationals seeking business opportunities in the United States, the U.S. government has announced an extension of the validity period for Treaty Trader (E-1) and Treaty Investor (E-2) visas. Effective November 16th, 2023, French citizens applying for E-1 and E-2 visa applicants can now benefit from an extended visa duration of 48 months, a substantial increase from the previous 25 months. This means that French citizens who apply for an E-1 or E-2 may be issued one of these visas for a maximum of 48 months. This adjustment aims to facilitate and encourage an exchange of commerce and investment between the two nations.

With this extension, a reciprocity fee of $58 per approved visa will be introduced. This fee will be applicable and collected at the time of the visa interview.

In general, nonimmigrant visa applicants from certain countries may be required to pay a visa issuance fee after their application is approved. These fees are based on the principle of reciprocity:  when a foreign government imposes fees on U.S. citizens for certain types of visas, the United States will impose a reciprocal fee on citizens of that countryfor similar types of visas.
