Trump’s Announcement

Trump’s Announcement

It’s not the end of US immigration.

Instead, immigration will be paused. President Trump announced last night that the issuance of immigrant visas will be halted for a period of 60 days. The announcement does not halt the issuance of temporary work visas. This means that issuance of temporary work visas such as the E-1, E-2, L-1, O-1 will not be halted once the US Embassies begin operating again as they are currently closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Trump said that his order would initially be in effect for 60 days, but that he might later extend it “based on economic conditions at the time.” As with most of Trump’s announcements, we have very little guidance to go one but we will of course, update you as we learn more.

While the announcement does not halt temporary work visas, our firm will watch for a possible change in how visa applications are adjudicated at the USCIS Service Centers and US Embassies and Consulates around the globe.
